Chicken biryani is a popular and flavorful rice dish, beloved across South Asia. Making a tasty chicken biryani at home is simple and can be done in just a few easy steps. This blog will guide you through each step and list all the ingredients you need to create a delicious biryani.

To make Chicken biryani following ingredients will be used

1. Ingredients for making Chicken Biryani:
  • 1 kg- Large chicken pieces with bones.
  • 700 grams of Basmati Rice.
2. For making chicken Curry:
  • Onion, medium size 5 pieces ( 400 grams)
  • Ginger Garlic paste- 2 table spoon
  • Tomatoes, sliced- 4 medium
  • Green Chillies, slit- 6 numbers
  • Chopped Coriander leaves, - 1 cup
  • Chopped Leaves of mint, 1 cup
  • Plain yogurt- 1 cup
  • 700 grams of Basmati Rice.
  • Biryani Masala- 5 table spoon
3. For Cooking white Rice:
  • Shahjeera (caraway seeds) - 1/2 tsp
  • Green cardamom - 4
  • Cloves - 4
  • Cinnamon- 2 pieces
  • Salt- 2 1/2 tablespoon
  • 2.5 liters of water to boil rice.
  • Leaves of mint - around 5- 12 leaves

4. Preparation :

  • Wash and Clean the chicken pieces. Drain the water properly or pat dry.
  • Slice the tomatoes and onions and chop 6 green chillies into small pieces.
  • Chop 1 cup mint and 1 cup coriander leaves
  • Mix the yogurt and keep aside
  • Wash & soak the Basmati Rice for thirty minutes .

5. Process to prepare the Chicken curry:

  • Add and heat 6 table spoon cooking oil in a frying pan and add the sliced onions
  • Fry on high heat for around 10-12 minute still the colors of onions turns light brown.
  • Then add the pasted ginger garlic and fry on low heat for 2 minutes .
  • Now add the chicken pieces, mix and fry on high heat for 2-3 minutes .
  • Add the Biryani Masala, mix and fry on medium heat for 3 minutes after adding a splash of water.
  • Usually Biryani Masala contains salt, therefore, no need to add salt while cooking the chicken during recipe. You can check if the biryani masala you are using has salt in it.
  • Now add the sliced tomatoes, mix it well and cook on medium to low heat for 4-5 minute still soft.
  • Turns the heat to low and add yogurt. Mix the yogurt and the add chopped mint and coriander leaves.
  • Cook for 2 minutes on low heat until oil separates.
  • Now cover and cook for 20-25 minutes on low heat till chicken is tender. after 10 minutes Remove lid and give a mix and close the lid again.
  • Let the excess water dry up to get a thick gravy.

6. Process to cook the Rice:

  • Add around 2.5 litres of water in one more heavy bottom pan. Place it on high heat.
  • To enhanced flavour & taste you can also add the water in which rice was soaked in this 2.5 litres.
  • When the water starts to boiling or making bubbles in it, add Green cardamom 4, Shah Jeera - 1/2 tsp, Cinnamon 2 pieces and Salt- 2 1/2 tablespoon (two and half tablespoon), Cloves – 4.
  • Mix it well to dissolve the salt completely . The water must be very salty.
  • When the water starts boiling, add the strained basmati rice & mix it well.
  • Continue to boil water on high heat, stirring very gently few times and carefully to not break the rice.
  • when the basmati rice is almost done (90%) after 9-10 minutes remove it from heat and strain the water.

7. Method of Layering the rice and cooked chicken:
  • Take a deep bottom pan and spread half cooked rice as the 1st layer.
  • Now spread the cooked chicken with gravy on top of the rice uniformly.
  • Next, again spread the balance boiled rice as the top layer.
  • Sprinkle some leaves of mint on top of the rice. Close the lid and cook on low heat for 7-8 minutes.
  • Allow it to rest for approx 20 minutes .
  • Once you open the lid, mix the chicken and rice evenly.

Now, the delicious Chicken Biryani is ready to be served, with refreshing salad and raita.
